Borenstein Drops Bomb on Quakes in 7-5 Win

April 24, 2013 - California League (CalL1) - Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA -Zach Borenstein's home runs are coming in bunches and Tuesday night one came to help the Inland Empire 66ers (9-10) defeat the rival Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (9-10) by a 7-5 final.

The victory ties the 66ers with Rancho Cucamonga for second in the California League South.

Things were ugly early for the 66ers as they allowed four runs to the Quakes before Inland Empire even had a chance to bat. In the bottom of the first the 66ers halved the lead with RBI hits from Alex Yarbrough and Brian Hernandez, but could not get closer despite having the bases loaded with nobody out while trailing 4-2.

Inland Empire squared up the game three innings later when Michael Snyder delivered a two out, two run single to tie the game at five. Meanwhile on the mound, after a near disastorous first frame, the 66ers bullpen responded by pitching 8 1/3 innings while allowing just one run. Robert Powell, Eric Cendejas and Michael Morin combined for the final six innings while allowing just one hit between them. The 66ers finally took the lead in the 7th inning when Zach Borestein, already 2-for-3 at that point, smashed a home run on to E Street, soaring over the right field fence. The blast was the fourth of the season for Borenstein and gave the 66ers a lead they would not relinquish. Brian Hernandez drove in a bonus run in the 8th, and the 66ers turned a double play behind Morin to end the game.

The Inland Empire 66ers will battle Rancho Cucamonga again Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The series and homestand finale will be a Thirsty Thursday presented by Hangar 24. For information on 66ers tickets or to schedule your next fun filled group outing, contact the 66ers front office at (909)888-9922.
