Bootcheck & Neal Named to IL All-Star Team

July 3, 2013 - International League (IL1)
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

Moosic, Pa. - Right-hander Chris Bootcheck and outfielder Thomas Neal of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) were selected to the International League All-Star team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The two will join RailRiders manager Dave Miley, who is managing the IL squad for a record-tying third time, in Reno, Nev. on July 17 when the IL matches up with the Pacific Coast League's All-Star team.

Bootcheck signed with the Yankees this off-season and has anchored the RailRiders' rotation. After his Tuesday triumph against the defending IL champion Pawtucket Red Sox, he leads SWB with seven wins and 75.1 innings pitched in 14 games (13 starts). His 3.46 ERA ranks among the IL's top 15. He received a call-up from the Yankees on June 14, and pitched one inning in relief against the team that drafted him, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Bootcheck is a three-time IL All-Star. He was honored last year when he was the Toledo Mud Hens' (Detroit Tigers) closer and in 2009 when he served the same role for the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates).

Neal has been a steady bat in the SWB lineup, and paces the RailRiders with a .332 average and .411 on-base percentage. He is tied with Dan Johnson for the team lead with 65 hits and has driven in 24 runs. He does not have enough plate appearances to qualify among the IL leaders, but his average would place third today if he did. Neal has also appeared in four games for the Yankees. He posted a pair of hits in his stint with the big league club.

Miley, who is in his seventh season as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre manager, will lead the IL squad. The best of the International League will face the Pacific Coast League's All-Star team on Wednesday, July 17. The game will be played at the home of the PCL's Reno Aces, and will be broadcast live on MLB Network. The RailRiders' radio home will also carry the national radio feed of the game on NEPA Sports Radio - The GAME, Northeast PA's largest sports radio network: 100.7 FM, 1340 WYCK-AM, 1400 WICK-AM, 1440 WCDL-AM and 106.7 FM.
