Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release
BATTLE CREEK, Mich - The Battle Creek Bombers (7-4) were unable to hold a 9th inning lead before falling to the Wisconsin Woodchukcs (7-3) in 11 innings.
Battle Creek struck first in the 1st inning. After singles from Cam Gibson and Jordan Winawer, a ground ball by Derek Hasenbeck gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead as Gibson scored. Nate Walker started on the mound for Battle Creek. He went 2.2 innings and did not allow a run while striking out 2. He was relieved by Alex Tukey who pitched 3.2 innings and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits. Tukey also recorded 4 strikeouts. The Bombers plated another run in the 4th and took a 2-0 lead into the 7th inning. After a walk and a hit batsmen to start the top of the 7th, Matt Tellor, who came into the game leading the league in RBI's, picked up two more plating Jimmi Correnti and Tyler Stieb to tie the game at 2.
In the bottom of the 8th Matthew Fears who was standing on third after walking to start the inning, scored on a 2 out RBI single to right field by Brandon Cable. Battle Creek was unable to hold the 3-2 lead in the top of the 9th. Brian Heldman started the inning by hitting Stieb who advanced to third on a Matt Tellor single. Stieb scored the tying run 2 outs later on a Madison Carter single. The Bombers went down in order in the 9th sending the game into the 10th. Both teams went quietly in the 10th inning. The Woodchucks then erupted for 6 runs off Zach Waters (L 0-2) in the top of the 11th. The Bombers got two runs back in the bottom of the 11th as Gibson and Cable scored on a Jordan Winawer single, but it was not enough as the Woodchucks came away with a 9-5 win.
The Bombers will welcome in the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters tomorrow night for the start of a 2 game series. The Bombers took both meetings from the Rafters last week in Wisconsin Rapids. Cam Wysocki will start on the mound for Intern Appreciation Night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
