Bombers Blank Cane Cutters in Sweep

Bryan/College Station, Texas- The Bombers completed the sweep of the Acadiana Cane Cutters Monday night, thanks to a shutdown performance by starter CJ Varela. The Bombers bats would also wake up, scoring 8 runs with 13 hits for an 8-0 win over Acadiana.

CJ Varela made his 5th start of the season, looking for his 2nd win of the season. Varela went 7 innings holding the Cane Cutters to only 4 hits and not allowing any runs. Both Colin Garrett and Broc Bosse would pitch 1 shutout inning to keep the Cane Cutters off the board.

The scoring started in the 1st inning for the Bombers as Michael Helman led things off with a double. He would steal 3rd and score on a passed ball to put the Bombers on the board.

Chris Andritsos would stay hot as he drove in Jared Mang and Ryan Benavidez with a 2 RBI single in the 3rd inning. Blake Clanton would also score Chase Calabuig with a Sacrifice Fly to cap a 3 run 3rd inning.

The Bombers offense would explode in the 4th inning when Kyle O'Keefe had a 2 RBI single with the bases loaded to give Brazos Valley a 6-0 lead. That was not all though as Ben Bailey would drive in Andritsos with a bases loaded single. Michael Helman would also have a bases loaded single to drive in O'Keefe giving the Bombers a 8-0 lead after 5 complete innings.

CJ Varela would go on for two more innings,pitching 7 complete shutout innings earning his second win of the season. Colin Garrett came on in relief in the 8th inning yielding no hits and strikeout 3 batters. Broc Bosse would take the mound in the 9th allowing 1 hit and keep the runner stranded to keep the shutout intact and complete the 2 game sweep of the Cane Cutters.

The Bombers hit the road for a six game road trip to face the Texarkana Twins, Texas Marshals, and Acadiana Cane Cutters. The Bombers take on the Twins on Tuesday, July 25th with a 7:30 p.m. first pitch.
