Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan-College Station (August 19, 2016)-The Brazos Valley Bombers today announced 2011 TCL Batting Champion Trey Porras has been named the 4th manager in franchise history.

Porras, a Needville, Texas native, had a club record 72 hits for the Bombers in the 2011 season where he led the Bombers to the TCL Championship series. This summer he was named to the Bombers All-Decade team.

He currently serves as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi where he has been with the Islanders since 2014.

Porras spent the past two summers as the head coach of the Hoptown Hoppers of the Ohio Valley League. Porras was 48-36 overall and went 34-10 last season as he coached the Hoppers to an Ohio Valley League regular season championship and a national summer league ranking.

He played college baseball and graduated from the University of New Mexico. The Lobos won back-to-back Mountain West Championships while Porras was there. In his senior season, Porras batted .324 with a .385 on-base percentage. He knocked in 35 runs and scored 35 runs as well.

Porras played two years at Wharton College before he attended New Mexico and was a first-team all-conference first baseman his sophomore season. He was awarded the Johnnie Frankie Award which is given out to the Most Outstanding Student Athlete.

Porras will replace Curt Dixon, who was the winningest coach in Bombers history and coached Brazos Valley to four league titles. Dixon could not return to the Bombers for the 2016 season as the four time TCL Coach of the Year has joined Southeast Missouri State University's coaching staff for the upcoming school year.
