Boggs, Collmenter Take Advantage Of Opportunities, Win Weekly Honors

May 3, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Oklahoma City outfielder Brandon Boggs and Reno starting pitcher Josh Collmenter have been named the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Week for April 26-May 2, the league announced Monday.

Boggs, a 27-year-old switch hitter, hit .417 (10-for-24) with three home runs, six runs batted in, a league-leading seven extra-base hits and a PCL-best seven runs scored during the week. His most impressive single-game performance came on April 29, in which he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, two runs scored and two RBI, helping the RedHawks to a 14-3 victory over New Orleans. Boggs entered the week with no home runs and no runs batted in on the season, but quickly changed that with a solo home run in his first at bat on April 26.

Boggs is in his second full season in Oklahoma City, after batting .268 with eight home runs a year ago. The Georgia Tech product also got extended playing time for the Texas Rangers in 2008, scoring 30 runs and driving in 41 in 101 games. His big week coincided with Craig Gentry's promotion to Texas, opening up the centerfield position for the RedHawks.

Collmenter earned his second-consecutive Pitcher of the Week award, just days after taking home the honors for Visalia of the Single-A California League. Following his promotion to Triple-A Reno, Collmenter continued his brilliance with seven shutout innings of Tacoma on April 30, retiring 15 Rainiers in a row at one point. He struck out eight, allowed just three hits and did not walk a batter in the contest.

Collmenter, a 6-4, 235 pound right-hander, was a 15th-round draft pick out of Central Michigan University in 2007. Featuring an over-the-top delivery, Collmenter has cruised through stops in Yakima, South Bend and Visalia, winning three previous Pitcher of the Week honors in addition to his awards in the past two weeks. His changeup was rated the best in the Diamondbacks system by Baseball America prior to the 2010 season.
