Bodie Returns to Frederick as Manager for 2017

FREDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys coaching staff will feature its 2016 field manager, as well as a few familiar names from previous seasons. Elected to the Texas League Hall of Fame last year, Keith Bodie begins his second season as the team's manager. He will be joined by pitching coach Blaine Beatty and hitting coach Kyle Moore. Sean McGill and Brian Guzman round out the field staff.
Entering his third season as a member of the Orioles minor league staff, Bodie, 61, begins his 20th season as a minor league manager. During that time he has posted a 1291-1180 (.522) career record. Under Bodie's tutelage, the Keys went 36-34 in the first-half (the team's first winning half of baseball since 2012) and finished 37-33 on the road, the most Keys road wins since at least 2005 (when Minor League Baseball began more stringent record keeping).
One of the most decorated managers in Texas League history, Bodie came to the Orioles following three strong years with the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks (Astros Double-A). During that time he compiled a 237-183 record, while the Hooks had the best record in the TL in each of Bodie's first two campaigns. In his time as a minor league manager, he has developed players such as Craig Biggio, Omar Vizquel, Zach Greinke and Ryan Zimmerman. As a player, the Brooklyn native was drafted by the Mets in the third round of the 1974 draft out of South Shore (NY) High School and spent parts of 10 years with the New York and Houston organizations.
No stranger to Keys fans, Beatty, 52, returns to Frederick after working as the pitching coach for the Low-A Delmarva Shorebirds in 2015-16. Previously, he served as the Keys pitching coach from 2006-08 and from 2010-12. This season marks his 12th on the O's minor league staff, with time at Delmarva, Frederick and Double-A Bowie. Before re-joining the Orioles organization in 2006, Beatty was a minor league pitching coach for the Mets and Pirates.
Originally drafted by the Orioles as a player, Beatty pitched 12 seasons in the minor leagues, going 121-69 with a 3.26 ERA in 296 career games. Named the Texas League Pitcher of the Year in 1988 as a member of the Double-A Jackson Mets, Beatty reached the Major Leagues with New York in 1989. Over a total a seven MLB games (in 1989 and 1991) he recorded a 2.30 ERA in 15.2 innings.
Moore, 31, begins his second year as a minor league hitting coach. He worked with Delmarva's hitters in 2016. A player for the Keys from 2010-11, the Alabama native also was a player/coach in 2013 before holding similar roles with Bowie and Delmarva the following two seasons. He was the strength and conditioning coach for the Shorebirds in 2012. Signed by Baltimore as a non-drafted free agent in 2010, Moore played collegiately at the University of Alabama.
McGill, 33, embarks on his second season as an Orioles minor league coach. In 2016, he held a similar role with Double-A Bowie. Selected by Philadelphia in the 23rd round of the 2006 draft, McGill played in 218 minor league contests with the Phillies and Braves as well as 217 games with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association.
Guzman, 32, returns for his third season in Frederick. Joining the Orioles as an athletic training intern in 2014, he held a similar role with the New York Mets in 2013. Originally from Santo Domingo, DR, Guzman received his Bachelor's Degree from Penn State and his Masters Degree from LIU-Brooklyn in athletic training.
The 2017 season begins on Thursday, April 6 against the Carolina Mudcats at Nymeo Field.
