Norfolk Admirals News Release

WINNIPEG, Man. - Brandon Bochenski's record-setting power play goal early in the third period propelled the Norfolk Admirals (4-6-0-0) past the Manitoba Moose (8-5-2-0) 3-1 on Monday night at the MTS Centre in the first ever meeting between the clubs.

The Admirals took a 1-0 lead 1:29 into the game. Martins Karsums sent a shot from the right faceoff circle that Moose goaltender Daren Machesney blocked. The puck rebounded to the slot where Ryan Craig sent a shot from the left hashmark into the net for his seventh goal of the season.

The Moose tied the game at one goal apiece 11:31 into the opening frame. Tommy Maxwell won a race to a loose puck behind the Norfolk net. He centered a pass into the slot where rookie Matt McCue collected it and scored his first professional goal with a shot past Admirals goaltender Dustin Tokarski's blocker.

After a scoreless second period, Bochenski gave the Admirals the lead for good with a power play goal 2:19 into the final frame. Juraj Simek sent a cross-ice pass from the right half-wall to Mike Lundin at the top of the left circle. Lundin's shot was thwarted by Machesney and bounded into the bottom of the left circle. Bochenski found the rebound and shoveled a backhand shot over the right leg of Machesney and into the net. The goal was Bochenski's 29th career power play goal as an Admiral and his 13th career game-winning goal as an Admiral. He now ranks first all-time in both categories in AHL Admirals history.

The Admirals did not let up the rest of the period, out-shooting the Moose 11-6 in the frame. Paul Szczechura cemented the victory with an empty-net goal with 38 seconds remaining.

Dustin Tokarski (26 shots, 25 saves) earned his fourth victory of the season. Daren Machesney (22 shots, 20 saves) took the loss.

Norfolk was 1-2 on the power play. Manitoba was 0-3.

The Admirals and Moose will square off again tomorrow night at the MTS Centre. The puck drops at 8:30 p.m. ET.
