BlueSox Kevan Smith Promoted to Major Leagues

Kevan Smith became the first BlueSox player to reach the Major Leagues on Sunday when he was called up by the Chicago White Sox.

A native of Cranberry Township and Seneca Valley high school graduate, Smith was a catcher, first baseman, and DH for the BlueSox in 201 0.

Smith led Butler in numerous offensive categories, including a .347 batting average, 35 runs scored, 59 hits and ten doubles. He tied for tied for the lead with 30 RBIs. Smith still holds the all-time League record having once been hit by four pitches in one game.

The White Sox drafted Smith in the seventh round (231 st overall) of the 201 1 draft out of the University of Pittsburgh. He was the leading catcher on the Charlotte Knights last summer, appearing in 97 games and hitting .260/.330/.370 with 36 RBIs and six home runs.

The White Sox currently lead the American League's central division with a 1 2-6 record.

Butler had had a dozen players drafted by Major League teams over their seven-year history. Opening day for their eighth season will be Thursday, May 26.
