BlueSox Boosters to Hold Food Drive

Butler BlueSox News Release

Throughout the season, fans and sponsors from all over Butler support the BlueSox.

Now, the BlueSox Boosters are giving back to the community with their first Knock Out Hunger Food Drive.

The Boosters are asking fans to bring non-perishable food items to the park on Friday, June 1 7.

"The Boosters are nonprofit, and we're here to give back to the community," explains event organizer Michele Stockard. "We've got to let people know that we're here to help."

Fans will receive one raffle ticket for each food item donated, and an arm's length of tickets for more than ten items. Each ticket is a chance at one of 32 gift cards to restaurants that sponsor the BlueSox; including the Monroe Hotel, Thoma Meats, The Butler Farm Market, Vin & Joe's Inn, and others.

"This will also put money back into our sponsors who have been with us for years," said Stockard.

Though St. Vincent de Paul locations do take non-food donations, only food will be accepted that night. Monetary gifts are also appreciated.

To Stockard, St. Vincent de Paul seemed like an obvious first-choice benefactor.

According to the director of St. Vincent de Paul, over 800 families and 2,500 people benefit from their food bank in Butler County. The number struggling with hunger locally "floored" Stockard and the other Boosters members.

The Boosters hope that Knock Out Hunger will become an annual event, but that depends on this year's food drive having a decent turnout. "If it's a success, we could draw for next year's benefactor," Stockard said, knowing how many community groups could benefit from the BlueSox' generous fans.

The June 1 7 game will be followed by fireworks presented by the Butler Republican Party.

The BlueSox will take on the Danville Dans at 7:05pm, gates open at 5:30pm.
