Peoria Rivermen General Manager Kevin McDonald announced Wednesday that the St. Louis Blues have reassigned defenseman David Shields from Peoria to the Rivermen ECHL affiliate, Alaska Aces.

Shields, 20, did not appear in a regular season game with Peoria but did see action in two preseason games. Prior to this year, he spent four seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Erie Otters where he made 250 appearances and amassed 67 points, including 15 goals and 52 assists.

In 2010-11, the 6'3, 218-pound defenseman played in 61 games ranking second among Erie defensemen with a career-high 27 points (six goals, 21 assists). He also appeared in seven playoff games in the Otters Western Conference Quarterfinals loss to the Windsor Spitfires. He had a goal and four assists with four penalty minutes.

The Buffalo, New York native was drafted by the Blues in the sixth round, 168th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rivermen head to Charlotte on Saturday to kick off a four-game road trip against the Checkers. The game will start at 6 p.m. CST and can be heard locally on CD Country 107.9 FM or online through www.rivermen.net.
