Blues Assign Toivonen To Rivermen, Schwarz to Blues

ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has assigned goaltender Hannu Toivonen to the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen. In addition, the team has recalled goaltender Marek Schwarz from the Rivermen.

Toivonen, 23, has posted a 5-5-3 record for the Blues this season along with a 3.29 goals against average.

He was selected by Boston in the 1st round, 29th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to joining St. Louis, he spent the previous four seasons in the Bruins' organization, splitting time between Boston and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Providence Bruins. Last season, Toivonen played in 18 games with Boston, posting a 3-9-1 record. The 6-4, 200-pound goaltender appeared in 27 games with Providence, backstopping the club to a 13-13-1 record, a .909 save percentage along with a 2.37 goals against average, which ranked ninth in the AHL.

The Kalvola, native made his NHL debut on Oct. 8, 2005 at Pittsburgh, earning his first NHL victory in a 7-6 overtime game.

Schwarz, 21, made his season on Dec. 9 at Colorado, stopping three of four shots in a relief effort.

He has played in 18 games with the Rivermen this season, posting a 8-6-2 record along with a .900 save percentage and a 2.37 goals against average.

The Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic native was originally the Blues first round selection, 17th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Peoria will return to action Tuesday night at the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario against the Bulldogs at 6:30 pm CST. The pre-game show kicks off one half-hour before game time with Tom Callahan on your Home for Rivermen Hockey, 96.5 ESPN Radio.
