Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

Bridgeport, CT-- The Bridgeport Bluefish (25-20) defeated the Long Island Ducks (21-23) 6-1 at The Ballpark at Harbor on Sunday afternoon to gain a split of the four-game weekend series between Ferry Cup rivals. The Bluefish get back to within two and a half games of the Somerset Patriots for First Place in the First Half of the Liberty Division Standings with the two teams facing off for a big three-game showdown at TD Bank Ballpark beginning this upcoming Tuesday night.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Chris Rearick (4-1) was dominant once again in earning the win, giving up just one run on four hits in six innings pitched, striking out seven, notching his third consecutive quality start and fifth overall on the 2017 campaign. Long Island pitcher Matt Larkins (0-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in six innings on the mound, striking out seven.

Long Island took a 1-0 lead against Rearick in the top half of the second inning when Giovanny Alfonzo plated Jordan Pacheco with an RBI base knock to start the scoring in the contest. Bridgeport took a 2-1 advantage in the home half of the fourth inning on an RBI double off the bat of Jonathan Galvez, and a run-scoring single from Tony Abreu, both coming with two outs in the frame. The 'Fish made it 3-1 in their favor in the sixth on Abreu's second run batted in of the day, this one coming via a fielder's choice. The home team broke the game open after the fans stretched out their arms and legs in the seventh as Jose Cuevas cleared The Ballpark at Harbor Yard with a massive two-out, three-run blast to left field, making it 6-1 Bridgeport. Five of the six runs scored for the Bluefish on the afternoon came with two-outs. The six runs were more than enough for the Bridgeport pitching staff, as Rearick, Zac Grotz, Manny Delcarmen, and David Carpenter retired the final 19 Long Island Ducks batters faced as the crowd of 3,106 went home with smiles on their faces. Cuevas, Galvez, and Sean Burroughs led the way for the Bluefish with two hits each.

Bridgeport returns to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Tuesday, June 13th, when they welcome in the Lancaster Barnstormers for a three-game midweek series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 P.M. Come and enjoy dinner and a ballgame on Kids Eat Cheap Tuesday. Children 12 and under can get a hot dog, chips, and a fountain drink for just $2! CLICK HERE for tickets.
