Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(York, PA) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (23-32) defeated the York Revolution (31-24) 7-2 at PeoplesBank Park on Saturday night to even up their Father's Day Weekend series at a victory apiece. The Bluefish pounded out 16 hits, marking the 20th time in 55 games played in which they have collected ten or more hits in a single contest. Bridgeport has now won nine of their last 13 games overall.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher D.J. Mitchell (2-1) earned the win, allowing just one run on six hits in six innings of work, walking two and striking out a season-high nine batters while tossing two wild pitches York Starting Pitcher Tony Pena (5-1) was tagged with the loss, lasting five innings, surrendering four runs on nine hits, walking and striking out three and throwing a wild pitch.

Bridgeport took a 1-0 lead off Pena just three batters into the ballgame. After back-to-back singles to begin the evening from Luis Hernandez and Endy Chavez, the 'Fish had runners at the corners. Welington Dotel brought home Hernandez with the game's first run by lifting a sacrifice fly to center field. York would answer right back off Mitchell in the home half of the first with a two-out rally. Joel Guzman singled and then crossed the plate on an RBI double by Telvin Nash, and after one inning of play the game was even at one. The Bluefish regained the advantage in the top half of the third inning, sending eight men to the plate against Pena, scoring three runs on four hits. Dotel began the rally with a single, and Jose Cuevas followed with a double, and Bridgeport was in business with two in scoring position. Dotel sprinted down the line from third on a wild pitch thrown by Pena, giving the visitors a 2-1 edge. After a Rodriguez free pass put runners on the corners, Jonathan Galvez stepped into the batter's box and laced a run-scoring single, plating Cuevas to make it 3-1 in favor of Bridgeport. Adron Chambers came up big with two out as he crushed an RBI ground-rule double to score Rodriguez, his first hit as a member of the 'Fish and all of a sudden the lead was extended to 4-1.

Leading by three runs moving to the top of the seventh, Bridgeport was looking for some insurance. Cuevas led off the frame with a double, his 23rd extra-base hit of the season, and would then advance to third on a productive fly ball out by Rodriguez. Galvez would make it 5-1 as he brought in Cuevas with a sacrifice fly. York would cut the deficit to 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Guzman, driving in Isaias Tejeda after he doubled to extend his hitting streak to 16 consecutive games. In the top of the ninth, the Bluefish would put away the game for good with two more runs to make it 7-2 in their favor. With one out, Cuevas reached on an infield single, his fourth hit of the game. Rodriguez was next, and he picked up a base knock to put two men on. Josh Vitters belted a two-out double to score Cuevas, and Connor David followed with a run-scoring single of the infield variety, allowing Rodriguez to cross the plate. Joe Kuzia tossed a scoreless ninth inning in relief, and the 'Fish had their first victory in six tries at PeoplesBank Park in 2016.
