Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
Bridgeport, CT - June 11th - The Bridgeport Bluefish were unable to hang on to the Liberty Division lead earned just one night ago as they fell to the Camden Riversharks 14-2 Wednesday. The 'Sharks win is highlighted by a six-run fifth inning off Bluefish southpaw Charlie Hesseltine. The Bluefish fall to 24-21 on the season and now trail the Riversharks by a half game in the division.
The six runs in the fifth blew the doors open on the Camden blowout victory. Brett Bonvechio hit his team-high seventh home run while Josh Rabe drove in three on a double over the head of Bridgeport left fielder Bobby Darula.
Bridgeport starter Ryan DiPietro (1-1) was able to keep the game close until the fourth inning. Camden leadoff man Gary Cates hit a tough hop over the head of the Bluefish lefty that could have ended the inning. Instead, the infield hit broke a 2-2 tie and led to a Nic Jackson two-run single to make things 5-2. DiPietro went four innings and gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout to suffer the loss. Jason Phillips, Richard Lewis and Cates all recorded three hits on the evening for the Riversharks.
Camden starter Ryan Drese (4-1) scattered eight Bluefish hits over his seven innings of work and allowed just two runs to earn the win. The two runs came in the first two innings on a Jesse Hoorelbeke sacrifice fly and an Alex Prieto RBI groundout. Travis Ezi and Prieto both had two base-hits in the contest while Calvin Pickering (double) and Darula (triple) added an extra base hit a piece
The Bluefish and Riversharks will finish the three-game set up tomorrow night at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Bridgeport's Barry Hertzler (2-2) will meet Chris Young (4-3) of Camden in the rubber match.
