Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Savannah Sand Gnats (8-7) scored two runs in the first and went on to stymie the Lakewood BlueClaws (4-12) in its 7-2 win, Friday night at FirstEnergy Park. The BlueClaws fall to 1-1 in the season series with the Sand Gnats, after taking the opener on Thursday.

Jordan Guth got the start for the BlueClaws and began his outing by walking Chad Zurcher and allowing a single to Brandon Nimmo. With the two on and one out, it was Kevin Plawecki that drove home the first run for the Sand Gnats with a single to left. Jeff Glenn followed with an RBI fielder's choice to put the visitors up 2-0 after the first.

Guth (1-3) gave up another run in the third on an RBI double off the bat of Plawecki. In the fourth, it was Jeff Reynolds with a solo home run off of Guth on the first pitch of the inning. The Sand Gnats added three runs, all with two down in the sixth, scored off of Nicholas Hanson.

Offensively for the BlueClaws, it was not until the sixth where they got on the board. For the second time in the game, Lakewood loaded the bases with no one out, and they plated a run on an RBI groundout by Mitch Walding. In the eighth, it was Angelo Mora with a leadoff double and Brian Pointer with an RBI single three hitters later that gave Lakewood its second run.

Steven Matz (1-0)was the Savannah starter that held the BlueClaws scoreless over the first five innings and induced three, inning-ending double plays that killed rallies for Lakewood. Four pitchers followed the starter and held the BlueClaws to just two runs on four hits.

Guth and Hanson were backed up by Delvi Francisco and Andrew Aizenstadt who finished the game with three scoreless innings on the mound.

NOTE: Due to high winds at FirstEnergy Park on Friday night, the Lakewood BlueClaws were not able to have the Postgame Fireworks show as regularly scheduled. As a result, all fans in attendance can take their ticket to the box office and exchange it for a ticket to a future, regular season Lakewood BlueClaws home game. Excludes the Celebrity Hitting Challenge and South Atlantic League All-Star Game.

Deborah Heart and Lung Center Player of the Game: Kevin Plawecki (SAV) 3-4, HR, 2B, 4RBI

The Lakewood BlueClaws continue a brief four game homestand, against the Sand Gnats with game three Saturday afternoon at 4:05 PM at FirstEnergy Park. RHP Josh Warner (1-1, 3.38) is slated to get the start for Lakewood and RHP Rainy Lara (1-1, 0.79) will go for Savannah in the Saturday afternoon affair.
