FISHY FINISH: What was a 2-0 game entering the home sixth spun out of control quickly as the Blue Rocks lost their second-half opener to the Carolina Mudcats on Thursday night, 7-3. The Mudcats mashed 18 hits including nine against two Wilmington relievers as Wilmington logged its 12th loss in 13 games. The 18 hits tied for the most allowed by the Blue Crew in a game this season.

FOR THE RECORD: The Blue Rocks fell to 9-31 when the opponent scores first, 10-34 when scoring three or fewer runs and 17-32 against the Southern Division. Last night's loss cemented a losing record for Wilmington at Carolina.

ROAD WOES: The Blue Crew has dropped seven straight road games, its longest road losing skid since the 2006 squad lost seven straight from July 25-August 12. The franchise record is 11, set by the 1999 team from July 1-18. Wilmington has not dropped eight consecutive road games since at least 2004.

TROUBLE AT HOME?: With Kevin David's home run last night, the team's home run total rose to 32, the second-fewest in the league. It also widened an already enormous split as 27 (84%) of those jacks have come on the road. David's dinger is the team's first since June 9.

SNAPPING THE SLIDE: David entered the game in a 4-for-46 (.087) funk before finishing last night 3-for-4.

PRODUCTION AT THE BOTTOM: David's big night came in his first game of the season as the nine-hole hitter. Eight of the Blue Rocks' 12 hits came from the bottom four men in the order. That included two apiece for Orlando Calixte in his Wilmington debut and Roman Hernandez. Hernandez had not logged a hit since June 6 against the Mudcats until his fifth-inning knock on Thursday snapped an 0-for-22 slide.

ROSTER MOVES: The Kansas City Royals have granted infielder Jake Kuebler his release. They also purchased the contract of Matt Fields from the Southern Illinois Miners of the independent Frontier League and assigned him to Wilmington. He had a league-best nine homers with the Miners in 31 games.

DIRTY DOZEN: The Blue Rocks have just one win since a June 5 defeat of Carolina, 5-2. The Mudcats returned the favor by the same score the next day. That marked the first of 12 losses among the Rocks' last 13 games.

UNDER THE SEA: With the loss, the Blue Rocks dropped to a season-worst 13 games under .500. They have not been this far below sea level since 2005.

ALL THE HITS: Eight of the nine men in Carolina's lineup finished with multiple base hits...The Blue Rocks previously allowed a season-worst 18 hits in a game on April 28 in an 11-5 loss against Winston-Salem...The Mudcats went 8-for-18 with men in scoring position while Wilmington went 0-for-6.

FUTURAMA: Before the game, Yordano Ventura was named to the World roster for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Wilmington alumni Wil Myers and Jake Odorizzi will play for the U.S. squad in the most prestigious exhibition for minor leaguers. The game begins at 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 8 from the Royals' Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, MO. The Royals are the only organization in baseball to place three players in the contest. The game will be televised live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.TV and is also available on the radio at MLB Network Radio (XM channel 89).
