 Southern Maryland Blue Crabs

Blue Crabs edge Patriots

July 8, 2008 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs picked up their fourth win in a row, starting off a six game homestand with a 4-1 victory over the first-half Freedom division champion Somerset Patriots.

Ryan Bicondoa was spectacular for the home club, pitching six scoreless innings before finally allowing a run in his league-leading eighth victory of the season. The win is Bicondoa's fifth in his last six decisions, and the right-hander also racked up six strikeouts to up his season total to 73.

Patrick Osborn continued his dream season, raking a single off the wall in his first at-bat. The all-star third baseman would double in the bottom of the sixth to add to his league leading RBI total, with John Ramistella coming across as the ball skidded into the right field corner.

Clinton Johnston would add a double in that sixth inning, and James Shanks would follow up with a single to score the first baseman, who somehow was left off the all star team with a .313 average.

The Blue Crabs now stand at 37-34 overall on the season, but more importantly start off the second half with a 1-0 record. Southern Maryland will again host the Patriots tomorrow night, with Jonathan Connolly taking the hill. In his last outing, Connolly pitched seven innings in picking up the win against Camden. He will be opposed by Somerset's Steve Kelly, a lefty with a 5-4 record on the season.
