Blue Crabs Beat Patriots 4-1

WALDORF , MD- The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Somerset Patriots 4-1 in front of 2,189 fans at Regency Furniture Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Blue Crabs broke a scoreless tie with a run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 1-0 lead when second baseman Chad Ehrnsberger drew a one out walk and came around to score on a two out RBI double down the right field line by shortstop George Sandel.

Southern Maryland added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 4-0. Rightfielder John Ramistella drew a lead off walk and came around to score on a one out RBI double into the right field corner by third baseman Patrick Osborn. First baseman Clinton Johnston followed with a RBI double to left center that plated Osborn and then leftfielder James Shanks hit a RBI bloop single to right that scored Johnston.

The Patriots plated their only run in the top of the seventh inning to make it 4-1 when designated hitter Josh Pressley led off by crushing a solo home run (13) to left center.

Blue Crabs' starter Ryan Bicondoa (8-4) picked up the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out six and walking two in 6.2 innings of work. Patriots' starter Aaron Fultz (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing fours runs on five hits while walking three and striking out three in 5.1 innings pitched. Blue Crabs' closer Derrick DePriest pitched a scoreless ninth for his 12th save of the year.

With the loss the Patriots dropped to 0-1 in the second half and 40-31 overall on 2008 season while the Blue Crabs improved to 1-0 and 37-34.

The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Wednesday, July 16th when the 2008 Atlantic League All-Star Game takes place at Commerce Bank Ballpark.
