Omaha Lancers News Release

Ralston, NE - Nick Rivera continued his scoring streak on Saturday night but it was the visiting Bloomington Thunder with three goals in the third period to break a tie and defeat the Omaha Lancers, 6-3, in front of 3,740 at Ralston Arena. It was the eighth sellout of the season.

After no scoring in the first period, the teams scored a combined six goals in the second period. The Lancers started off the flurry of goals just 2:33 into the middle period while down a skater. As the Thunder worked their first power play of the night, Nick Rivera started a rush with Brian Williams. Rivera fed Williams who beat goaltender Logan Halladay for a 1-0 lead.

Bloomington answered right back as their power play chance came to an end. Right as Josh French came out of the penalty box for Omaha, Jeremy Davies fired a shot from the right wing circle over the shoulder of goaltender Zackarias Skog to tie the game. The goal was Davies' ninth tally of the year and came at 3:43 of the second period.

Jake Gingell took a minor penalty shortly after at the 4:21 mark. While on the mad advantage, Logan Lambdin let a wrist shot go that beat Skog for his 15th goal of the year and the Lancers trailed 2-1.

At 6:35 of the second period Austin Lemieux tied the game back up for Omaha. After taking the puck in the left wing circle, the winger let a shot go that beat Halladay over his shoulder to even the score, 2-2. The goal was Lemieux's third of the season with assists from Matt Meier and William Fallstrom.

A power-play goal by Omaha's captain got them the lead back in the second. Nick Rivera took the puck on the goal line to the side of the net, turned, and swung the puck at the goaltender. The puck banked off the side of Logan Halladay and in the net for the 3-2 lead at 10:38 of the second period. Rivera's power-play goal was assisted by Josh French and Jacob Bryson. The goal also continued his goal-scoring streak to five games.

Bloomington's tied the game later on in the second and it needed video review to count. At 14:26 of the second, on a delayed penalty against Omaha, Ethen Somoza punched in a rebound that sat at the top of the crease between the legs of Skog to even the score, 3-3, heading to the final period. The goal was just Somoza's second of the year and has helpers from Baker on the original chance and Sean Harrison.

To start the third period, Omaha replaced Zack Skog in net with Kris Oldham. It only took the Thunder 2:36 to take the lead for good. Logan Lambdin went hard to the front of the net as Sean Harrison sent the puck to him. Lambdin angled his stick and sent the puck sailing by Oldham for a 4-3 lead. It was Lambdin's second goal of the night and 16th of the season.

Bloomington tacked on two more goals in the end. Jake Slaker scored at 6:41 of the third period for the 5-3 lead and Tarek Baker added an empty-net goal late in regulation for the 6-3 victory.

Zackarias Skog stopped 13 of 16 and Kris Oldham denied 9 of 11 after coming in to start the third period.
