July 12, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

Lexington starter Scott Blewett struck out 10 batters in seven innings, and Ben Johnson had two hits and two runs batted in as the Legends held off the Kannapolis Intimidators 3-2 Tuesday night in Kannapolis.

The Legends opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning. Travis Maezes struck out on a ball in the dirt, and reached second on a throwing error by catcher Seby Zavala. Maezes went to third on a ground out by Michael Hill and came home on a single by Johnson. Johnson moved to second on a base hit by Roman Collins, and after D.J. Burt sacrificed the runners to second and third, Johnson scored when shortstop Johan Cruz committed a throwing error after fielding a grounder hit by Anderson Miller.

In the top of the fifth, Hill led off with a double and scored on a single by Johnson, giving the Legends a 3-0 lead.

Blewett shut out the Intimidators until the seventh. He struck out the first two hitters, but Zavala and Landon Lassiter singled and Antonio Rodriguez followed with a two-run double to cut the Legends lead to one at 3-2. Blewett then retired Micker Adolfo on a ground out to end the seventh, and Sam Lewis pitched two hitless innings in relief to earn his first save.

Blewett (5-8) got the win. In seven innings, he allowed four hits and two runs, and walked one batter.

Kannapolis starter Jimmy Lambert (0-1) worked the first three innings and took the loss.

The Legends are now 8-10 for the second half of the season and are three and one-half games behind first-place Augusta in the South Atlantic League Southern Division.

Game two of the three-game series will be played Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
