Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Bakersfield, CA - The Bakersfield Blaze took their second straight win over Rancho Cucamonga, coming from behind to beat the Quakes by a score of 4-3 on Thursday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Blaze first baseman Kyle Petty tied the game with a two-run double and then scored the eventual winning run in the sixth, as the Quakes not only dropped two of three, but they lost their second straight series overall.

Rancho's offense put ten hits on the board, but they scored all their runs via the long-ball. Michael Ahmed's solo homer put the Quakes in the lead in the second, as his fourth of the year made it 1-0.

The Blaze equaled the score in the bottom of the inning, as Austin Wilson grounded into a double-play, bringing home a run to tie the game at 1-1 against Quakes' starter Tommy Bergjans.

Johan Mieses blasted a two-run homer in the sixth, his sixth, giving the Quakes a 3-1 lead against Blaze starter Tyler Herb (5-2).

Bergjans was enjoying a terrific Thursday, at one point retiring ten in a row. That all came to an abrupt halt in the sixth. With two outs and the bases empty, Bergjans (2-4) allowed five straight hitters to reach. With two men on, Petty doubled down the left-field line, tying the game at 3-3. After a walk to Chantz Mack, Wilson singled home Petty, giving the Blaze the lead for good at 4-3.

Rancho left two stranded in the eighth against Kody Kerski and went 1-2-3 in the ninth against Kyle Schepel, who earned his third save of the year.

The Quakes (30-18) will head to Visalia on Friday for a four-game set against the Rawhide. Josh Sborz (3-2) will go for the Quakes, while the Rawhide will send Wei-Chieh Huang to the mound in the series-opener.

The Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, June 1st, as they host the Lake Elsinore Storm in the first game of a seven-game home stand. June 1st is another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark, as four-legged friends are welcome at LoanMart Field with the purchase of a $3 Pet Pass. Game time is 7:05pm and tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
