Blaze Play Through Storm, Beat Lake Elsinore

May 22, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

The Bakersfield Blaze (18-24) knew they missed a golden opportunity on Friday night to extend their winning streak as they faced a Lake Elsinore (19-24) team that has been struggling lately. The Storm prevailed in Game 1 even after they committed four errors, but on Saturday night they weren't as fortunate.

Chantz Mack slugged a two-run homer and Jay Baum pushed his hitting streak to 11 games as the Blaze beat the Storm in Game 2, 7-3.

Tyler Herb (W, 4-2) rebounded after a couple of losses by going six innings, striking out four, and walking three. Herb gave up a pair of unearned runs after Josh VanMeter hit an inside-the-park home run, but the right-hander was in complete control from there on.

Bakersfield captured the lead early thanks to Joe DeCarlo's (1-2, RBI, R, 2BB) two-out triple off the center field (400 ft.) wall in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Mack crushed a 2-1 fastball over the 36-foot high wall in right field to give Herb a 3-0 cushion.

The game began to unravel for Lake Elsinore when Jay Baum reached first base to lead the sixth inning off because of a Javier Guerra error at shortstop. Kyle Petty immediately singled before Mack dropped one into right field. With the bases loaded, Daniel Torres hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Baum and made the score 4-2. Following a DeCarlo walk, Justin Seager 's hard grounder made its way up the middle scoring Petty and Mack to balloon the lead to 6-2. Walker Lockett (L, 0-1) didn't have the support of his offense on this night and the defense wasn't much help either. Three more errors made by the Storm came back to haunt them on this evening.

In his last at-bat of the game, Jay Baum singled to center to finish 1-5.

With the win, Bakersfield is now 4-2 against Lake Elsinore this season as they are now 6-4 in their last 10 games.

Game 3 is Sunday with first pitch at 1:00pm. David Gascon will have the call on BakersfieldBlaze.com and TuneIn Radio.
