Blake Draughon Named New Silvertips Athletic Trainer

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips) and general manager Garry Davidson, in conjunction with the Integrated Rehabilitation Group, announced today the appointment of Blake Draughon as the club's new Athletic Trainer. Blake succeeds Rob Tagle, who worked with the Silvertips last season and has accepted a position with the Worcester Railers (ECHL) as head athletic trainer.

Draughon, 28, assumes supervision of medical and health needs, and pursuing the objective of injury prevention and minimal recovery time for Silvertips players. The position is Draughon's second in hockey after previously serving the Dallas Stars (NHL) in the organization's development camp in July 2014, working with Stars prospects including defenseman John Klingberg. He assisted the Stars in rehabilitation of post-surgical patients, medical and nutritional coverage of practices, and with camp physicals.

Draughon previously served in hands-on and administrative multi-sport roles with Plainview (Texas) High School and Texas Tech University and started his career as a student athletic trainer with Texas Tech during 2010-11, handling rehabilitation, medical, nutritional, and facilities maintenance for the Red Raiders football, baseball, and track programs.

Certified in CPR/AED for professional rescuers with the American Red Cross, he graduated from Texas Tech in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Sport Science and earned his Masters of Science degree in Athletic Degree from Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in 2015.

Opening the Silvertips home schedule, covering 36 games this season at XFINITY Arena, is Opening Night against the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday, Sept. 23 (7:05 p.m.), when the first 3,000 fans will receive a collectible Silvertips magnet schedule, presented by Lamoureux Real Estate. All fans will also witness the raising of the Silvertips fifth U.S. Division championship banner to the rafters before the opening puck drop.
