Florida Everblades News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Florida Everblades (13-9-0) used a 48 save effort by goaltender Jaroslav Janus and a hat-trick by Francis Lemieux to notch their fourth straight win in a 5-2 decision over the Kalamazoo Wings (7-9-2) on Wednesday night at Wings Stadium in front of a crowd of 1,822.

The Everblades sent the K-Wings to their fifth consecutive loss by coming out strong to open their third road game of their current five-game trip scoring just 20 seconds into the contest on Matt Pistilli's 13th goal of the year. Pistilli was set up at the front of the net by a good solid pass by Lemieux from the right corner. Mitch Fadden added to his league-leading point total with the second assist on the tally.

Late in the period the Everblades added to their lead on a power play marker by Mike McKenzie at 16:37. McKenzie recorded his sixth goal of the season after tipping in a shot by David Fischer from the top of the crease. Matt Beca also collected an assist on the goal.

The second period saw the Everblades pick up where they left off in the first and keep the pressure on eventually leading to a 3-0 lead. Lemieux notched the first of his three goals at 11:35 with the Everblades on a delayed penalty. After taking a cross check that would have resulted in a Kalamazoo penalty, Pistilli fed the puck from the right side of the net to Lemieux who skated to the inside part of the right circle before lifting a shot past Wings net-minder Ryan Nie.

The K-Wings then got on the board at 13:39 when Trent Daavettila tallied a 5-on-3 power play goal. Daavetilla's seventh goal of the year came after he was able to lift a quick shot from the left circle over the right shoulder of Janus and just under the crossbar.

Florida however responded shortly after with another power play goal of their own. Again it was Lemieux cashing in the goal, his sixth of the season after a good individual effort by Fadden. After taking a long pass from Janus, Fadden skated the puck into the Kalamazoo zone on the left wing side then swung behind the net and up the right wing boards before cutting across the blue line and into the left circle where he found Lemieux camped out at the right post with a hard pass opening a 4-1 lead.

In the third period Lemieux completed his third career hat-trick at 15:41 by firing a hard wrist shot from the right circle between the pads of Nie. Pistilli collected his second assist of the night and Phil Paquet chipped in a helper on Lemieux's seventh goal of the year.

Janus took care of the rest facing 22 shots in the third period alone, allowing only a Bryan Jurynec goal with 1:09 remaining in the game, en-route to notching his second straight win and improve to 6-4-0.

Nie saw his record fall to 6-6-2 after allowing the five goals on 27 shots.

With the win the Everblades improved to 4-0-0 vs. Kalamazoo and to 6-6-0 on the road.

On the power play, the Everblades finished the night 2-of-7, while Kalamazoo closed out the game 1-of-7.
