Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades announced today that forward prospect Brandon Machado has been signed to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

The 15-year-old product of Airdrie, AB was selected by the Blades in the 5th round (101st overall) of the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

"Brandon is a player who possesses all the tools to be an offensive threat at the next level," said Director of Scouting Dan Tencer. "He sees the offensive game really well, attacks with speed and is a significant threat at both shooting and distributing the puck. The really exciting part is the continued growth and elevation of not just his offensive assets, but also his structure and play without the puck."

Machado won both the scoring title and MVP award in the CSSHL Elite15 League this season as he suited up for Edge School in Calgary. His remarkable campaign saw him post 26 goals and 52 assists for 78 points in just 35 games. His point total was 16 points better than the next leading scorer in the league and his 2.2 points per game average is the highest in the 3 year history of the Elite15 League.

"We challenged Brandon to dominate his league this year to earn this contract," added Assistant GM Steve Hildebrand. "He didn't disappoint. We're extremely excited about the potential he has to develop into a really key piece for our lineup in the future. We couldn't be happier that Brandon, and his parents Alfredo and Colleen, chose the Blades and the WHL."
