Blades Finish off Weekend with Third Straight Win

Saskatoon Blades News Release

Regina, SK - The Saskatoon Blades won their third straight game in as many days on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 final over the Swift Current Broncos.

The Blades opened the scoring midway through the first period thanks to three veterans executing a pretty play off the rush. Jackson Caller skated the puck through the neutral zone, dished to Josh Paterson who then gave it to Chase Wouters, before returning it to Paterson who then undressed Bronco goaltender Joel Hofer to make it 1-0.

There were no shortage of penalties called again on Saturday afternoon, but it was the penalty killing units emerging successful for the most part. The teams exchanged goals in the middle frame; Eric Florchuk tipped a point shot from Marek Schneider for the Blades, while Ethan Regnier tallied a short-handed marker for the Broncos.

Rookie import defenseman Emil Malysjev tallied his second point in as many games with a power play goal in the third period. Jake Kustra had the lone assist on the insurance goal.

Saskatoon held the Broncos to just two shots on goal in the final 20 minutes, giving Koen MacInnes a comfortable ride down the stretch to his second pre-season win of 2018.

Next up for the blue & gold is a trip back to Prince Albert on Thursday to face the Raiders. The two rivals will then meet on Saturday, September 8th, in Warman at the Legends Centre. Tickets for the game in Warman are on sale now at the Blades office and the Legends Centre in Warman. Tickets are $10 each with proceeds going to Warman Minor Hockey.
