Calgary, AB - The Saskatoon Blades scored the first six goals of the game en route to a 6-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen on Wednesday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The victory moves the Blades three points ahead of the Hitmen for the final WHL Eastern Conference Wild Card spot. Saskatoon has five games left in the regular season while Calgary has six.
The Blades, who held Calgary to only 18 shots, used a balanced scoring attack receiving goals from six different players. Josh Patterson with a goal and an assist and Jesse Shynkaruk with two assists led the way.
Mark Kastelic and Matteo Gennaro replied for the Hitmen with Gennaro's marker his 40th goal of the season.
Prior to the contest, the Hitmen inducted alumnus Andrew Ladd into the `Forever A Hitmen' program with a special on-ice ceremony, presented by Tim Hortons. The program, which honours the contributions alumni have made to the organization both on and off the ice, included a tribute video followed by the raising of Ladd's `Forever A Hitmen' banner which will remain on permanent display at the 'Dome.
The Hitmen open a three-in-three weekend on Friday, Mar. 10, when they welcome the Lethbridge Hurricanes to the Scotiabank Saddledome for a 7:00 p.m. start. It's RE/MAX Chuck-A-Puck. Purchase a puck and toss it on the ice in the second intermission for a chance to win one of four hot air balloon rides. Proceeds will support Children's Miracle Network and Jr. Hitmen Hockey.
Calgary then heads to Lethbridge the following night to wrap up the home-and-home set on Saturday, Mar. 11. The Hitmen will then cap off their busy weekend on Mar. 12 against the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings. The 4:00 p.m. start is part of Sunday Funday presented by Pocky. Highlights include a post-game family skate, FREE with a game ticket. In addition, Sunday's game is presented by EllisDon in support of ConnecTeen, a confidential peer support service for youth in Calgary and area.
