Blades Beat Rays In OT 5-4

Estero, FL Nick Vukovic's overtime goal with 1:39 left in overtime capped a come from behind victory for the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena in Florida. Ernie Hartlieb had a pair of goals in the victory which improved the Everblades to 4-1 on the season, while the Rays picked up a point as their record shifted to 2-4-4.
Florida scored the final three goals of the game in the victory after the Rays had opened up a two goal advantage in the second.
"I was proud of the way our team competed out there tonight," Commented Jason Fitzsimmons. "We have been banged up and had to play people all over the ice at different positions and had every opportunity to win. Florida didn't give up and you have to give them credit for that."
The Stingrays took advantage of five first period power plays to grab a 1-0 lead on the Everblades. The Rays goal came off the stick of Dave Spina on a five on three. Spina, who leads the Stingrays in goals with seven took a short pass from Jeff Legue and beat goaltender Phil Osaer along the ice for the score.
The Everblades scored the first two goals of the second period to take a 2-1 lead including a shorthanded goal off the stick of Steve Saviano, but the Ray retook control with three unanswered goals by JF David, Jeff Legue and Robin Gomez. Gomez's scored his forth of the year at the 10:58 mark. He had missed the last two games with injury. The Blades cut the game to within one when Ernie Hartlieb scored between the legs of Mike Brown at 13:46 sending the game in to the third period with the Rays up 4-3.
Florida tied the game in the third period on a power play goal by Ernie Hartlieb. Hartlieb redirected a wrist shot from the point by Chris Lee for his second of the night to force overtime.
In Overtime Nick Vukovic took a pass from Saviano out of the right corner and beat Mike Brown, who had 29 saves on 34 shots and is now 0-0-2 on the year, with a slap shot into the lower right corner.
The Stingrays continue a six game road trip on Saturday night in Augusta against the Lynx. The Rays have a record of 1-1 this year against Augusta.
