Blackhawks Assign Kenton Helgesen to Fuel

INDIANAPOLIS - The NHL's Chicago Blackhawks announced Friday that they have reassigned newly-acquired Kenton Helgesen to the ECHL's Indy Fuel. In additional transactions, the Fuel have signed forward Jack Ceglarski to an amateur tryout contract (ATO), and placed defenseman Chris Williams on injured reserve, retroactive to February 19.

Helgesen, 22, was acquired by the Blackhawks Wednesday at the NHL Trade Deadline from the Anaheim Ducks, in a deal that sent forwards Spencer Abbott and Sam Carrick to the West Coast. The 6-foot-3, 194-pound forward/defenseman has appeared in 38 games this season with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies, recording three goals and 10 assists. In 69 career games with the Grizzlies, the second year pro from Fairview, Alberta has tallied 18 points (5g, 13a).

A seventh round pick of the Ducks in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft (No. 187 overall), Helgesen played four seasons with the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen, serving as the team's captain in 2014-15. In 266 total games for the Hitmen, Helgesen registered 130 points (34g, 96a) and a +77 rating.

Ceglarski, 24, joins the Fuel after completing his collegiate career at SUNY-Geneseo (NCAA Div. III), where he scored 73 points (16g, 57a) in 110 games. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound forward from Beverly, Mass. put up a career best 26 points in 2016-17 in 26 games for the Knights.

The Fuel are back in action Friday night as they host the Wheeling Nailers at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, before closing out a two game weekend Saturday in Quad City.

Next Home Game: Friday, March 3 vs. Wheeling - 7:35 p.m. (Brave the Shave): Help the Fuel drop the gloves against childhood cancer to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation. The Fuel will be sporting specialty jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game, with a portion of the net proceeds benefitting St. Baldrick's.Friday is also a Fuel College Night presented by Moe's Southwest Grill - pick up a ticket, $5 towards concessions and $5 Moe's Bucks for $20 with a valid college ID.
