December 21, 2008 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) - East Kentucky Miners
PIKEVILLE, Ky. - CBA veteran Jermaine Blackburn recorded a quadruple-double consisting of 22 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists and 10 steals Saturday night as the host East Kentucky Miners defeated the West Virginia Wild 154-111 in another Interleague Challenge game between the CBA and ABA at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
For the second straight game, seven different East Kentucky players reached double figures in the scoring column. Delvin Thomas had a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Miners. Mike Dean scored a team-high 26 points for the East Kentucky unit, claiming the team-high scoring nod for a third straight time.
The Miners' scoring effort was very balanced. Mike Crain scored 19 points, Galen Young and Justin Taylor netted 14 apiece and Wayne Turner added 13. Joe Buck scored nine, Alonzo Hird had eight and Jason McLeish netted five.
Young and McLeish finished with nine assists each. Turner dished out eight assists for the Miners.
As a team, East Kentucky had 49 assists opposed to 16 turnovers.
"We're a good passing team," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "Tonight, we weren't as crisp as we had been, though. That's something we'll work on."
The Miners eased out of the first quarter ahead 36-27. East Kentucky, which scored 41 points in both the second and third quarters, broke the game open before the intermission. The Miners entered halftime out in front 77-48.
Former Kentucky Mr. Basketball J.R. VanHoose led West Virginia with a game-high 31 points and 12 rebounds.
The Miners owned the boards, outrebounding West Virginia 50-31.
East Kentucky dominated the quarter points, blanking West Virginia 7-0.
Finishing on a strong note, East Kentucky outscored West Virginia 36-26 in the fourth quarter.
The Miners will host the Wild in a second straight game Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
