Black Wolves Set for NLL Draft

UNCASVILLE, Conn. - The New England Black Wolves will look to bolster their roster at the 2016 NLL Entry Draft on Monday, Sept. 26th, which can be watched live from the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ont., on NLL.com beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

New England has seven picks in the draft, including the eighth overall, as well as the 14th, 24th, 29th, 37th, 54th and 56th selections. Of those seven picks, four were acquired through offseason trades.

"Like most drafts, if you're picking at the top, you're going to get good players and there are some star quality players up there," Black Wolves head coach Glenn Clark said. "There are very good players in this draft who will be playing in the NLL and having a positive impact on teams."

In their second season in Connecticut, the Black Wolves enjoyed one of the biggest turnarounds in NLL history last year, finishing 10-8 under first-year coach Clark. New England went on to defeat the Georgia Swarm in the first round of the playoffs before falling to Buffalo in the East Division Finals. It was the first playoff win for the franchise since 2001.

"We identified some needs in free agency (during the offseason)," New England general manager Rich Lisk explained. "We happened to make a deal with Georgia to get us into the top 15 so now we fill in some of the other little spots where we think we need some help."

The Saskatchewan Rush hold the first overall pick in the draft and are expected to select former Quinnipiac University forward Ryan Keenan. Kennan is the son of Rush head coach and general manager Derek Keenan.

The Black Wolves will open the 2017 season on January 7th at Rochester and will open their home schedule at Mohegan Sun Arena against the Buffalo Bandits on January 28th at 7 p.m. Until November 1st, the Black Wolves are offering a buy-one-get-one promotion on season tickets.
