Black Hawks in Stars and Stripes

November 7, 2011 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks' traditional red and black colors will be set aside Friday as the team wears red, white, and blue to honor America and our nation's Armed Forces on Veteran's Day, the Hawks announced Monday before revealing the special patriotic uniforms.

The dark blue jerseys feature the Black Hawks' traditional logo laid over white stars. The shoulders are covered in an American flag pattern, while additional white stars sit between red and white stripes around belt level. A Sullivan-Hartogh-Davis Post 730 Honor Flight patch will adorn the left shoulder. After Friday's game against the Chicago Steel, the sweaters will be auctioned with proceeds benefitting next spring's Honor Flight.

Earlier this year, Black Hawks President Doug Miller assisted with the veterans' travel needs during an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and said it was a humbling experience.

"What these men did when they were the same age as our players changed the world," said Miller. "It is a privilege to honor our nation, these heroes, and all who have and are serving on Veteran's Day, while supporting this great cause."

The Honor Flight program brings local World War II veterans to Washington in order to visit the National World War II Memorial and other landmarks. Screaming Eagle American Bar & Grill at 228 East 4th Street in downtown Waterloo sponsored the jerseys.

Seats still remain for the Veteran's Day matchup against Chicago, which begins at 7:05 in Young Arena. To order tickets, visit waterlooblackhawks.com or call the Black Hawks box office at (319) 291-7680.
