Black Bears Win Final Home Game 8-7 in Extras

GRANVILLE, WV - The West Virginia Black Bears defeated the Williamsport Crosscutters 8-7 in 14 innings in the Black Bears final home game of the 2017 season.

Williamsport held a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the third inning. West Virginia tied the game when Jared Oliva drove in a run with an RBI single to left field. Kevin Kramer gave the Black Bears a 2-0 lead with an RBI single to centerfield. West Virginia's final run of the inning came when Crosscutters' pitcher Will Stewart threw a wild pitch, allowing Deon Stafford Jr. to cross home plate.

The Crosscutters retook the lead by scoring four innings in the top of the fourth inning. Tristan Gray helped breathe life into the Black Bears in the bottom of the fifth by blasting a solo home run to right field to make the score 5-3.

Williamsport scored a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings. West Virginia chipped away at Williamsport's lead in the bottom of the seventh inning when Dylan Busby reached first on a fielding error, allowing Stafford Jr. to score. Jose Barraza drove a run with a groundout to shortstop, scoring Busby.

West Virginia trailed 7-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth. Dylan Busby showed some heroics by slamming a solo home run to right field to tie the game. The game went into extra innings and did not see a run scored until the fourteenth inning. Raul Siri scored the game- winning run when Brett Pope hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

The Black Bears (40-34) will travel to Mahoning Valley to take on the Scrappers (43-29) in their final two games of the season.
