Today's Game
Tonight, the Bisons host the Toledo Mud Hens in the third game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). Buffalo won last night's game over the Hens, 2-1, which evened up the season series at a win apiece. Monday, the Herd will welcome the Columbus Clippers for their only trip to Western New York.
vs. the Hens
The Bisons are 1-1 against the Hens this year. With a victory today, Buffalo can assure themselves of at least a split of the four-game series at Coca-Cola Field. The Herd has not lost a four-game set to Toledo at home since the 2003 season with two wins and seven series splits.
On the Mound
RHP CLAUDIO VARGAS will make his 14th start of the season tonight. Vargas, who has split time as a starter and reliever, has come out of the pen in six of his last seven appearances (10.1 IP, 4.35 ERA, 5 SO). In his last start on July 3, Vargas allowed four runs on six hits in 4.2 innings pitched with three strikeouts in an 11-1 loss against Rochester.
Mauro hits them Far-O
INF MAURO GOMEZ hit his International League leading 26th home run last night against Toledo. Gomez is now tied for 3rd in the entire MiLB, only two behind Hickory's Ryan Rua (28). The 26 homers are already the 9th most by a Bisons player in a single modern era season. Alex Ramirez holds the team record with 34 blasts in 1998.
Blue Jays Rehab
Blue Jays OF MELKY CABRERA went 1-3 in his Bisons debut as he begins a MLB injury rehab assignment with the Herd. Cabrera has been on the DL since June 27 with left knee tendinitis.
Rotating Nicely
The Bisons rotation has given the team 10 quality starts in the club's last 13 games. Over that span, the group has posted a 3.11 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 84.0 innings of work. In July, all Bisons pitchers have combined to walk just 28 batters in 135.2 innings of work.
Bisons Bits
INF MUNENORI KAWASAKI has reached base in five of his six games with the Bisons this season. He has hit .353 (6-17) with a .476 on-base percentage...The Bisons are the first IL club to 100 homers on the season. The Herd is on pace for 145 home runs this year.
Blue Jays Update
The Blue Jays (45-50) played home run derby with the Tampa Bay Rays last night in the 8-5 loss at the Rogers Center. The teams combined for eight home runs (four apiece). Toronto will continue a 10-game homestand today (1:07 p.m.) against Tampa Bay.
