Bisons Game Notes

July 30, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Syracuse Chiefs in the third game of a four-game series from Alliance Bank Stadium. The Chiefs lead the series 2-0 after last night's 3-1 victory. Tonight, the Herd will turn to LHP Aaron Laffey. He has not earned a decision in his last three starts after winning seven straight. Syracuse will counter with RHP Jeremy Cummings.

GO NORTH: All 36 of the Bisons reaming games are against International League North division teams. Buffalo's 27-17 record within the IL North is the best among the six teams.

HE'S NO JOKE: LHP Aaron Laffey is looking to get back to his winning ways. After winning seven straight games June 2 - July 26, he has not earned a decision in his previous three starts. Last Thursday, he allowed just two runs in six innings but the Herd needed to rally in the ninth to win over Charlotte, 5-4. In the 10 games since June 2, the southpaw has posted a 1.75ERA with more strikeouts (55) than hits allowed (49)(61.2IP, 14R, 12ER).

DOUBLES DUTY: Ryan Mulhern hit doubles #30 and #31 of the season last night. He is currently tied for third in the International League behind Toledo's Timo Perez (34). At this pace, Mulhern is set to hit 42 doubles for the year. That would fall just two short of the Bisons Modern Era single season record of 44 set by Jhonny Peralta in 2004.

THE FRANCHISE RETURNS: Last night, Ben Francisco played his first game with the Bisons since his big league promotion on June 20. Though he went 0-4, the outfielder is nearing qualification to lead the league in hitting. If Francisco had 10 more plate appearances, his .324 batting average would lead the International League.

ALWAYS ON: Keith Ginter has reached base safely in 19 out of the last 20 games he has played. Since June 29, he is hitting .319 (22-69) with nine runs scored, five doubles, three homers, 13RBI and 13 walks. Ginter leads the Bisons with 54 walks this year.

ROSTER MOVE: Infielder Asdrubal Cabrera joined the Bisons today from Double-A Akron. In 96 games with the Aeros, the All-Star hit .310 (114-368) with 23 doubles, eight home runs and 58RBI. He was leading the Eastern League in runs (78) and was fourth in hits (114) and steals (23). In 2006, Cabrera hit .263 (50-190) with one homer and 14RBI in 42 games with Buffalo.
