Buffalo Bisons News Release
After a 14-inning loss, the Buffalo Bisons exacted some revenge with a 2-1 defeat of the Rochester Red Wings at Coca-Cola field Wednesday afternoon.
Domonic Brown delivered the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the 10th, lining a single into left-center field to bring home Jon Berti from second.
Berti, just promoted from Double-A New Hampshire earlier in the day, entered the game two batters earlier as a pinch runner for David Adams, who led off the bonus inning with a single off his own. The speedster then stole second to move himself into scoring position, setting up the walk-off heroics of Brown.
Starter Roberto Hernandez, in his first game action of 2016, was limited to four innings of work. Eleven and a half years after his debut with Buffalo, the big Dominican was both effective and efficient, using his sinker to hold the Red Wings to just three hits without allowing a run.
"I felt good. I didn't try to over-throw, just keep the ball down, get the ground-ball outs," said Hernandez.
He certainly did that - six of the twelve batters he retired did so on the turf.
Fresh off of Tuesday's activation, Arnold Leon also made his Buffalo debut. The righty reliever got off to a shaky start, surrendering one run by giving up three hits to the first four batters he faced. Leon then settled down, striking out six and ended his afternoon by sitting down ten straight batters.
Manager Gary Allenson was more than satisfied with his first look at both pitchers.
"The key to the game was the two new guys," said Allenson.
"I didn't know what to expect out of them. For Hernadez to go four innings on 60 pitches and Leon to go four with 50 pitches, obviously that helped us out big time with the 14 inning game last night."
The first run of the game didn't come until the fifth when Rochester's James Beresford dumped a ball just over short to score Heiker Meneses.
Casey Kotchman then tied the game two innings later, taking a 3-1 offering from Jason Wheeler over the wall in right.
Wheeler came up to make a spot start from Double-A Chattanooga where he had a 1-1 record with a 1.88 ERA. The 24-year-old lefty gave up three hits to Buffalo's first four batters but then sat down 17 of the next 20 before Kotchman's homerun.
BISONS NOTES:
