Bishop Lifts Stingrays Past Royals

North Charleston, SC - Forward Hunter Bishop scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to help the South Carolina Stingrays (9-12-0-2) defeat the Reading Royals (13-7-0-1) 3-2 at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night.
Stingrays Captain Shawn Weller kicked off the scoring 7:43 into the second period knocking in a rebound past the right arm of Royals goaltender Philipp Grubauer (L, 12 saves on 15 shots) from the top of the crease. Forwards Kevin Baker and Chris Langkow earned assists. The Royals tied the contest at 13:02 when forward Joel Champagne slipped a shot past the right skate of Stingrays netminder Ryan Zapolski (W, 26 saves on 28 shots). Defenseman Damon Kipp gave the Stingrays a 2-1 lead on the power play with his first professional goal at 18:46 with help from forwards Matthew Pistilli and Bishop.
Royals defenseman Adam Comrie knotted the contest back up at 14:22 of the third period. Bishop sealed the victory for the Stingrays with an unassisted breakaway goal at 16:45. The Stingrays ended the game 1-for-2 on the power play while the Royals went 0-for-6.
The Stingrays host the Gwinnett Gladiators tomorrow, Saturday, December 1 at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum for Go Green Night with Charleston Country Environmental Management. The first 1,000 fans receive an environmentally friendly Stingrays tote bag!
