Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY - Cameron Bishop and Jimmy Murphy limited the ValleyCats to just four hits, and the IronBirds piled on four 9th inning runs en route in a 7-0 road win in front of 4,107 fans Thursday night at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

Bishop (1-1) earned the win, retiring 18 of the 19 batters he faced, including 17 in a row. He yielded just one base hit, and struck out five. Murphy, (S, 1) pitched the final three frames, allowed three hits and two walks, but did not give up a run.

Tri-City (32-37) received two singles from Gabriel Bracamonte, and one each from Kyle Davis and Jacob Meyers, but finished the night 0-6 with runners in scoring position.

Southpaw Adam Bleday (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs in the first two innings. Juan Robles didn't fair much better in relief of Bleday, giving up four runs in the 9th to seal the win for Aberdeen.

The IronBirds (38-31) got RBI knocks in the first from T.J. Nichting and Mason McCoy, and a Kirvin Moesquit sacrifice fly that scored Zach Jarrett made it 3-0, a lead Aberdeen wouldn't relinquish. Two home runs in the 9th inning off the bats of Ryan Ripken (3) and Trevor Craport (3), and a Jean Carrillo sacrifice fly cemented the 7-0 win.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: With the loss, the 'Cats are officially eliminated from the Wild Card race, but still have a chance at a miracle in the Stedler Division. Vermont won Thursday, meaning the ValleyCats would have to win out, and the Lake Monsters would have to lose out for the 'Cats to make the 2017 New York-Penn League playoffs.

SOUND SMART WITH YOUR FRIENDS: Moesquit, who is 2nd in the NYPL in stolen bases (28), was caught stealing twice tonight (11).

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED: Facing a new pitcher in the 7th, the 'Cats jumped on Murphy. Bracamonte walked, and Kyle Davis popped a single off of Moesquit's glove into right field. With two on, and no outs, Adrian Tovalin grounded into a 4-3 double play to end the 'Cats momentum.

The ValleyCats recorded strike-him-out, throw-him out double plays twice Thursday, coming in the 5th and 8th innings.
