Biscuits on wrong side of slugfest, 11-7

April 19, 2008 - Southern League (SL1) - Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY - Before 7,518 fans Saturday night, the largest crowd ever to see a game at Riverwalk Stadium, the Montgomery Biscuits (7-9) dropped an 11-7 slugfest to the Jacksonville Suns (6-10).

For the Biscuits starting pitcher Jeff Kamrath, it was one of those nights. In the top of the 2nd inning, the Suns scored five off of Kamrath. The inning started with a Rene Rivera walk. Juan Gonzalez would later single on a line drive and Rivera would score on a ground out. With Suns' center fielder James Tomlin at bat, Adam Godwin stole second base and Juan Gonzalez scored on a throwing error by Biscuits catcher John Jaso.

John Jaso broke out of a slump, giving the Biscuits an early lead with a two-run homer in the first inning and smashing a two-run, bases-loaded single in the seventh. He collected three hits and knocked in four runs.

The Biscuits almost came all the way back in that seventh inning, scoring three runs and loading the bases. But reliever Cory Wade quelled the threat by striking out Gaby Martinez and Ronnie Merrill and inducing an inning-ending groundout from Josh Asanovich.

Godwin, a native of Enterprise, set an all-time record by becoming the first opponent to steal four bases against the Biscuits.

Montgomery's 11 hits marked the sixth straight game in double digits with hits.

The second game of the series features a dynamite pitching matchup, with Biscuits righty Wade Davis (2-0) against Jacksonville lefty Clayton Kershaw. First pitch is Sunday afternoon at 2:05.
