Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biscuits were no-hit into the seventh inning and ultimately beaten in the series opener, 3-1, by the Jacksonville Suns on Saturday night in front of 7,125 at Riverwalk Stadium.

Jarrett Santos, making an emergency spot-start for the Suns worked five no-hit innings, striking out three and walking one before departing. Santos (2-0) earned his second win of the season after taking a perfect-game bid into the fifth inning.

Jacksonville led 3-0 before the Biscuits broke up the no-hit bid when Rhyne Hughes sent a solo-home run to right field off of reliever Kasey Olenberger to cut the advantage to 3-1. It was the sixth home run of the season for Hughes, who leads the Southern League.

The Suns took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning off of Biscuits starter Jeremy Hellickson. Lee Mitchell led off the inning with a single and Kevin Randel followed with a two-run blast to right-center field to give Jacksonville a 2-0 lead.

The Suns added their third and final run with three consecutive singles against reliever Neal Frontz in the seventh inning. Bryan Petersen cracked an RBI-single to score Ryan Klosterman to make it 3-0.

Hellickson (1-1) was again solid for Montgomery, but took the loss over six innings, conceding two runs on five hits and striking out a season-high eight batters.

The Biscuits mounted a rally in the eighth, putting two aboard with nobody out, but were turned aside by reliever Jay Buente. Matt Peterson then earned his fourth save of the season for Jacksonville, working a scoreless ninth inning.

The series continues with game two scheduled for 2:05 PM on Sunday. RHP Aneury Rodriguez (0-3, 10.13) will make the start for the Biscuits against LHP Sean West (2-1, 2.60) for Jacksonville.
