Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (14-11) opened up their first 10-game home stand of the season in the quickest home game of 2016 (2 hours, 17 minutes) with a 2-1 victory over the Birmingham Barons (10-16)
Chih-Wei Hu (1-0) made his fourth start of the season for the Butter and Blue, and the Taiwanese right-hander answered the bell yet again, tossing 6.1 innings of one run ball in a no decision. Entering Wednesday night, Hu hadn't allowed an earned run all season, and made it all the way into the seventh before a two-out RBI-single by Keenyn Walker ended the streak at 20.2 innings to tie the game at one.
The Biscuits got on the board early on Wednesday, as Casey Gillaspie took Birmingham starter Tyler Danish (2-3) deep for his fourth of the season, a solo shot over the right field wall in the second. Gillaspie would double in his next at-bat before coming to the plate in the bottom of the seventh with Willy Adames at third.
That's when Gillaspie came through with yet another base knock, this one a single into left field to plate the go-ahead, and game-winning run. Gillaspie finished the game 3-for 3, a triple short of hitting for the cycle. Parker Markel (2-0) would go on to get the win, as Brad Schreiber shut the door in the ninth to earn his fifth save of the season.
The Biscuits will aim to make it two in a row against Birmingham on Thursday night when Jake Faria (0-3) takes on Jordan Guerrero (0-0) on Cinco de Mayo Night at 7:05 PM at Riverwalk Stadium.
