Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - For the first time all season, the Montgomery Biscuits have won five games in a row. The Butter and Blue shutout the Birmingham Barons for the second time in their five-game home stand with a 1-0 victory on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Brent Honeywell (3-1) was on the mound for the Biscuits and threw a gem, tossing seven shutout innings, surrendering just two hits with no walks while striking out four in the win. The Biscuits were facing off against Birmingham starter James Dykstra (4-9), who also pitched well, but not well enough on this night.

After Patrick Leonard singled and got to second base with his seventh swiped bag of the season, Granden Goetzman delivered a two-out RBI-single into center field to score the third baseman, and provided Honeywell with all the necessary offense on the one swing.

The Biscuits outhit the Barons, seven to four, with Leonard tallying the only multi-hit performance with a pair of singles. Kyle Bird pitched a scoreless eighth out of the bullpen, and although Kyle Winkler allowed a leadoff double in the ninth to Barons center fielder Hunter Jones, Kean Wong made a spectacular play to throw him out at the plate later in the inning as the right-handed setup man struck out Trey Michalczewski with runners at first and second to end the game.

The Biscuits remain tied with the Chattanooga Lookouts in the Wild Card standings after their North Division rivals won away at Jacksonville, but will go for their first ever Riverwalk sweep of the Barons and their first home sweep since July of last year against the Tennessee Smokies on Friday night when Chris Kirsch (6-7) takes on Thaddius Lowry (NR) at 7:05 PM.
