Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (70-50, 30-21), Class-A Advanced affiliates of the Texas Rangers, saw their six-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday with a 7-0 loss against the Carolina Mudcats at Five County Stadium. The Pelicans were shut out for just the fifth time this season.
Right-hander Cole Cook (2-1) took the win, firing six scoreless innings with just three hits allowed. Cook walked one and struck out four in a winning effort. Left-hander Luis Parra (0-1) was saddled with the loss, surrendering four runs, three earned, on six hits over 3.2 innings.
The Pelicans finished 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight men on base. Kellin Deglan doubled in the second inning and was stranded at third base. The Pelicans loaded the bases with one out in the eighth inning but did not score.
The Mudcats sent seven men to the plate and took the lead with two runs in the second inning. Erik Gonzalez had an RBI single and Logan Vick reached on an RBI fielder's choice. The Muddies extended their lead against Parra with an RBI single from Gonzalez in the third inning.
A two-run home run from Alex Lavisky in the seventh inning gave the Muddies their largest lead of the game.
Randol Rojas worked 3.1 innings out of the Pelicans bullpen and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits over 3.1 innings.
Right-hander Josh McElwee turned in a scoreless eighth inning.
The Pelicans and Mudcats play the second game of the three-game series Thursday at Five County Stadium. Right-hander Kevin Pucetas (1-1, 6.55) will take on left-hander Shawn Morimando (8-11, 3.11). First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 7 p.m.
