MEDIA RELEASE - Billy White Returns to Halifax

Halifax, NS -- The Halifax Hurricanes are pleased to announce the signing of Billy White for the 2016-17 season.
Head Coach and General Manager Kevin Keathley credits the Club's ownership group on being able to negotiate the noteworthy deal. "Being able to resign Billy is huge for us as an organization. Our ownership group had a big part in helping with Billy's return. They were very open and encouraging during the negotiations process which allowed for us to get the contract done."
Billy White (6'8", 235lb power forward) averaged 11.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game with the Hurricanes last season. The season was capped with the Club receiving the NBL Canada Championship trophy.
"Billy was one of the premier forwards in all of NBL Canada last season," continued Keathley. A number of players from last season have been able to elevate their profile with overseas opportunities and for us, to be able to bring Billy back, is very exciting."
Born in Las Vagas Nevada, White played college ball San Diego State and in his senior year was a Mountain West Conference All-Tournament Team selection and was an All-MWC honorable mention selection for the third straight season. He went un-drafted in the 2011 NBA Draft however did sign with Iowa Energy of the NBA D-League in December of 2011. On December 15, he was signed by the Miami Heat, though he never played with them. For the 2014-15 season, White played for Elitzur Ramla B.C. of the Israeli league, posting averages of 21.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. After winning the championship in Halifax, Billy spent a couple of months with Apollon Limassol BC of the Cypriot Basketball League before signing with Halifax.
Keathley adds, "We have a crop of young rookies added to the mix this season and players like Billy White and Cliff Clinkscales can provide a lot of leadership and mentoring for those young guys."
