Reno Bighorns News Release
RENO, NEV., October 17, 2012 - The NBA Development League today announced that the Reno Bighorns will select 5th in the 2012 NBA Development League Draft. The draft will take place via teleconference on November 2 at 7:00 PM ET, from the League's New York headquarters.
The 2012 NBA D-League Draft order was determined by the 2011-12 standings, in reverse order.
"We are very excited for the upcoming draft," said Bighorns Head Coach Paul Mokeski. "We won't have the final list of players for a few more weeks, but expect it to be a very good draft."
The Bighorns will again hold a Draft Party for season ticket holders and all fans at Sully's Sports Bar inside the Tamarack Junction. Fans are encouraged to attend for the chance to win raffle prizes, meet the coaching staff and follow the Bighorns' draft selections in person.
"I join our Bighorns fans in eagerly anticipating with excitement this year's NBA D-League Draft," said Herb Santos, Jr., owner of the Reno Bighorns. "Which basketball star will wear the Bighorns uniform and help lead our team to a D-League Championship? We'll soon find out and I look forward to being there with our fans on November 2 at the Tamarack Junction."
Coach Mokeski gave some insight into his drafting strategy, "We will look to pick up a couple very good players in the first two rounds, then look for that diamond in the rough after that." He added, "The draft is a very important step for us as we look to make a run in the playoffs."
More than 20 players selected in the last three NBA D-League Drafts went on to earn GATORADE Call-Ups to the NBA, including Jamaal Tinsley, the first overall selection in 2011. Ten additional members of the last three NBA D-League Draft classes had NBA experience at the time of their selection.
Each of the NBA D-League's 16 teams will be given one pick in each of the eight rounds. No trades will be permitted during the draft and only players signed to an NBA Development League Standard Player Contract are eligible to be selected.
Fans can follow the eight-round NBA D-League Draft on nba.com/dleague, which will feature the picks updated in real ticket with an opportunity for fan commentary.
The order for each round of the 2012 NBA D-League Draft is as follows: Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Sioux Falls SkyForce, Idaho Stampede, Maine Red Claws, Reno Bighorns, Tulsa 66ers, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Texas Legends, Iowa Energy, Canton Charge, Bakersfield Jam, Erie Bayhawks, Santa Cruz Warriors, Springfield Armor, Austin Toros and the Los Angeles D-Fenders.
The Bighorns open their fifth season in Reno on Friday, November 30th at the Reno Events Center. Season tickets and group tickets are on sale today. For more information, call the Bighorns at 775-853-8220.
