Big Third Quarter Ignites Energy

Bismarck, ND - The Iowa Energy (12-5) outscored the Dakota Wizards (4-12) 38-17 in the third quarter and defeated Dakota 103-91 Friday night at the Bismarck Civic Center. Othyus Jeffers and Chris Lofton scored a game high 21 points apiece to lead the Energy.

The Wizards took a 13-8 lead early in the first quarter on a Walter Sharpe jump shot with 6:20 left. Iowa went on a 12-3 run and took the lead on an Othyus Jeffers layup with 2:14 left and led 22-19 at the end of the first. Dakota outscored Iowa 25-21 in the second quarter and would lead 44-43 at the break.

Dakota came out in the third and scored the first four points of the quarter and then Chris Lofton hit a three-pointer to give Iowa the lead for good at 49-48 with 10:00 minutes left in the quarter. Lofton was 3-5 from behind the arc in the quarter and would end the game with five three-pointers. The Wizards tried to come back in the fourth quarter cutting the lead to 86-76 on two free-throws by Chris Johnson with 5:16 left in the game, but Kyle Weaver hit four free-throws on the other end to secure the win for the Energy. Othyus Jeffers scored 11 of 21 points in the quarter.

Curtis Stinson recorded his sixth double-double of the season scoring 16 points and dishing out 10 assists.

The Wizards were led in scoring by Chris Johnson, who scored 15 points to go with 16 rebounds and Anthony Goods who also scored a season high 15 points.

The Wizards and the Energy meet again for the sixth time this season on Monday, January 3rd at 7:00 p.m. at the Bismarck Civic Center.
