Big saves and big goals lead to big win over Colorado

Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (February 6)-As pivotal games go, this was as crucial as they come when facing a team not in the same division as the South's leader Texas Brahmas and North's top team the Colorado Eagles matched up for the first and only time in the regular season Friday evening. Texas prevailed in dominant fashion winning 4-1 to increase their winning streak at home to nine, and six consecutive wins.

It was a playoff atmosphere at the NYTEX Sports Centre, resembling that of last season's seven game series in the Northern Conference Finals which was the last time the teams saw one another. There was quite a display of talent and speed in the first period, proving to be the game of the night in the Central Hockey League. Brahmas defenseman Nathan Saunders started the scoring for Texas with a powerplay goal from Travis Banga and Scott Sheppard.

Following a scoreless but raucous second period Colorado came back with a goal of their own to even the scoring at 1-1. Still, history has proven that Texas is a third period team as they have outshot their opponent 64-46 this season, and the Brahmas were looking to continue their ways in the final period. In a twelve minute span the Brahmas scored three unanswered goals on Eagles goaltender Andrew Penner to win 4-1. Matt Burto, Greg McConnell and Jason Deitsch all had goals for Texas.

It was phenomenal play by Brett Jaeger, stopping 41 of 42 shots that earned him his 22nd victory of the season, and the Brahmas the South's best 31-10-4 record. The Brahmas will travel to Bossier City for a I-20 rivalry against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Fans can see all the action at http://www.nifty-tv.com/chl/.
