Big Return for Player of the Week Finkelstein
March 12, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Ben Finkelstein was in the Waterloo Black Hawks' lineup over the weekend for the first time following a six game absence, and was back with a vengeance; Monday, Finkelstein was named Defenseman of the Week by the United States Hockey League.
The Boston College recruit recorded an assist Friday, helping Waterloo earn one standings point from a 5-4 shootout loss to the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. The point came on Jack Drury's power play goal in the second period.
The second period suited Finkelstein even better on Saturday. Entering the middle 20 minutes tied 1-1 with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, he helped to propel the Hawks to an eventual 5-1 victory. Goals by Solag Bakich, Garrett Wait, and Jackson Cates were the culmination of Finkelstein's play-making. All totaled, he finished the weekend with four assists and a team-best +3 plus/minus margin.
Finkelstein's dynamic offensive abilities have given Waterloo a big boost during his brief time with the team. Since joining the Hawks in January, the Florida Panthers draft pick has stacked up three goals and 15 assists in just a dozen games. Saturday was his third multipoint game. Finkelstein has been held without a goal or assist only twice. While ten of his points have come on the power play, he also owns a +5 differential for the season.
On January 29th, Finkelstein was named USHL Defenseman of the Week for the first time. He joins Cates as the second Black Hawk to win two league player of the week awards this season.
Coming up Friday and Saturday, the Black Hawks host the USHL Eastern Conference-leading U.S. National Team Development Program. The back-to-back games both feature the Black Hawks Family 4 Pack, including four tickets, concession vouchers, and more for $48, while supplies last.
