Big Night for Solano Sparks Sens

August 3, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Jhonatan Solano went three-for-three with two doubles, and drove in five runs, to lead the Harrisburg Senators past the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton on Tuesday night, by a final score of 8-6. With the win, the Senators are now a season-best four games over .500, at 57-53.

Solano drove in the first two runs of the game in the second inning, with a single that scored Jesus Valdez and Adam Fox. That put the Sens in front 2-0 through two. After the B-Mets had scored five in the fourth and fifth to take a 5-2 lead, the Sens came back in the sixth, with Solano in the middle of the action again. His two-out, two-run double cut the deficit to one, before another two-out, two-run double-this time from Josh Johnson-put the Sens up 6-5.

The Senators increased their lead in the seventh inning, thanks to a bases-loaded walk by Solano and an RBI single by pinch-hitter Ofilio Castro. The walk gave Solano five RBI on the day. Binghamton (54-56) did score one in the bottom of the seventh to cut the Sens lead to two again, but there was no more scoring in the ballgame.

Along with Solano, Valdez also had three hits for the Senators, and scored two runs. Chris Marrero had two hits and two runs scored, while Adam Fox had a hit and two runs scored. Castro, Johnson, Danny Espinosa, and Marvin Lowrance each had one hit to give the Senators thirteen on the game. Starter Brad Peacock (1-0) picked up the win for the Sens, despite allowing five earned runs in five innings of work. Reliever Dylan Owen (4-2) of Binghamton faced four batters in the sixth, retired none of them, and took the loss. Cole Kimball pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to earn his second save for the Sens.

Game two of the series is at 6:35 PM at NYSEG Stadium, with RHP Andrew Kown (6-4, 3.78) of the Senators scheduled to oppose RHP Chris Schwinden (4-6, 5.35) of the B-Mets. Radio coverage begins at 6:20 PM, on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
